Have you stopped recently to think about how much you miss reading? Well, I know reading is not everyone's' cup of tea, but I'm sure deep inside everyone there is a drive to read something of interest. Before I started school (which has been keeping me crazy busy) I realized that I hadn't read in a long time. I mean, I read ALL the time. But I hadn't done some reading which I truly enjoyed. We all HAVE things to read, but do you WANT to read something?
I've had this newly assigned personal journey where I attempt to become a better person. But the definition of being a "better person" is not defined by pre-existing denotations. I am in the search of finding myself as well as the definition of what it means to be BETTER. It's cheesy, but it has truly changed my perspective and goals. Because, I believe that reading for personal pleasure is an important part of my life, I have pushed myself to begin buying books. Let me be real, I will buy a physical book over a digital one any time of the day.
As an artist and romantic, I sometimes read with too much passion. I find a book much more than just entertainment, and lately non-fictional books have become my main groove. Recently, I bought three books that seemed interesting. The best thing about being in a modernized world involves the reality that we can learn from writers all over the world; from people who have similar thoughts and aspirations.
Although I have only read one of the books, I recommend all of them. I will speak a little about each one of them and why I like them so much without even reading them.
The Defining Decade:
I will soon turn 20. An incredible yet daunting awareness that keeps me thinking about what I want to do with my life. I constantly have thoughts that I can't just simply live a life of comfort and simplicity. I want a meaningful life. The meaning of that, well, I don't know it yet. Of course, in order to find out I want to make the best out of my 20s, I can't wait until I'm 30! That's too far for this crazy soul.
Pilgrim at Tinker Creek:
I have never read a book so simple and beautiful such as this one. It's far form being a fictional book. It's almost too real. The heartfelt descriptions of the author during one of her journeys is unfathomable. I cannot explain the profound thoughts and meaning of this book. All I can say is READ IT.
Made to Stick:
I don't know too much about this. But I found it an interesting read because I want to be an influential person, and as such my ideas should stick. Right? I think this will not only benefit the path which I hope to pursue (and hopefully yours too!) but the way in which I convey thoughts and ideas.
I am excited; too much really. But I will definitely update my intake (without killing the book) on each read. Remember to always keep innovating yourself, feeding you mind, and exploring your soul.
Best,
MB
